Abstract

The practice of clinical medicine within the global South is being profoundly redefined by a silent, structural crisis. While international healthcare frameworks focus heavily on pandemic preparedness and novel viral pathogens, regional tertiary care networks in Pakistan face a more immediate, daily existential threat: the compounding convergence of deeply entrenched endemic infections and rapidly accelerating antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

As we present the latest volume of the BMC Journal of Medical Sciences, it is time to look closely at our local epidemiological footprint. For the clinicians, academicians, and researchers representing Bannu Medical College and our allied teaching hospitals, this transition marks a pivotal shift. We must move past the era of reactive, empirical prescribing and step firmly into an era of rigorous, data-driven antimicrobial stewardship.
